Grampa's Story

Grampa's Weeder has been pulling out weeds and their roots for over a hundred years! This ingeniously designed weed removal tool was invented in 1913 in Seattle, Washington and people living in the Great Northwest quickly made it the MUST-HAVE weed puller for getting rid of weeds quickly and easily. Production of the stand-up weeder stopped in 1941 so that all available metal could be put towards the war effort and unfortunately, once the war ended, manufacturing of this wonderful weed removal tool never resumed.

-

This all changed in 1999 when my husband Greg found my mother's strange looking garden tool in her garage. Once he figured out what it was and how it worked, he was hooked! The next thing we knew, Grampa's Gardenware Co. was born and we were hand-making this turn-of-the-century weed puller tool in that very same garage. We are thrilled to introduce Grampa's Weeder to gardeners everywhere. As a small family business, we've come a long way in 25 years. It's amazing that this century-old weed puller tool, a simple lever, remains one of the most effective weed & dandelion removers on the market. Not only does it eliminate the need for chemicals, but it also prevents strain on your knees and back. What worked well in 1913 still works well today. As the saying goes, "Everything Old Is New Again", and Grampa's Weeder proves it every day with its ingenious design that has stood the test of time.

Only when you lean the tool, will the forks pinch around the weed.

Materials

  • Handle: The weeder boasts a long, resilient bamboo handle, renowned for its strength-to-weight ratio.
  • Head: Powder coated steel offers a high degree of durability and rust resistance.

  • Each weeder undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure that the union between bamboo and steel is seamless, providing a reliable tool.
  • Product weight is 2.3 pounds

Capacity

  • Designed for a variety of common garden weeds, the tool works best at removing weeds in softer soil types.
  • The weeder excels in removing weeds with a tap root.

Limitations

  • While the tool is highly effective for most common weeds, it may struggle with particularly large or woody roots that exceed the grasp capacity of the steel claws.
  • For soils that are overly rocky or dense clay, additional effort may be required to penetrate and secure the weed for pulling.
